How to Use @-Mentions and Hashtags (#)
Wondering what to do to make sure your posts and comments reach specific people, companies, or people with specific interests?
Here’s another recap from our “AHTD Marketing Minute” segment from Fall Meeting 2020 in Salt Lake City. Click here to read, “What to do to be effective in social media”. Let’s take a look at another element of posting:
This is where the social media convention of using @-mentions and hashtags (#) come in.
@-mentions are used to catch the attention of the person or company you are @-mentioning, the connections of those people you @-mention, and the followers of the company you @-mention. When employing @-mentions, as you type in the name after the @ sign, you must select one from the drop-down list that appears as you type. There will be a hyperlink to person and company’s LinkedIn pages.
Hashtags (#) are used to “file” posts so they can be found near posts on a similar subject or by similar posters. You can use existing hashtags, create your own, and definitely use both your own and others’ hashtags together.
Using @-mentions and hashtags (#) will ensure that more than just your connections find your posts, learn about you, learn about your company, and find out what interests you!
