Session Descriptions

Designed to provide continuing professional development, the sessions in the Sharpening the Saw Leadership Series include:

Month 1: Honing Effective Communication Skills

Research has found that as many as 70% of problems in the workforce are attributable to miscommunication. Business leaders who improve the clarity, simplicity, and proper extent of communications achieve greater organizational success. This session is a refresher for leaders on how to accomplish goals by enhancing the effectiveness of communication to increase team understanding, alignment, and engagement.

Month 2: Coaching and Leading High-Performers
Telling people what to do delivers bare minimum results. Guiding employees to self-discovery creates ownership and learning opportunities - inspiring innovation. In this session, participants will learn how to optimize results by establishing strong coaching relationships with their high performers, unlocking outstanding outcomes and new business opportunities.

Month 3: Leading with Emotional Intelligence

Emotional intelligence (EI) underlies a person’s self-awareness, empathy, and resilience and is fundamental to the ability to lead others. Research confirms that a high emotional quotient (EQ) is a better indicator for achieving business success than a superior intellect (IQ). Unlike IQ, EQ can be developed and enhanced throughout one’s lifetime. This session helps managers understand, develop, and use EI to inspire their employees and drive outstanding results.

Month 4:  Managing Conflict and Building Collaboration
Talented people have options. Leaders need to develop and retain their best people while finding additional talent to meet organizational goals. This session reveals the best practices for attracting, developing, and preserving your organization’s greatest asset— your people.

Month 5:  Attracting and Retaining Talent in Today’s Labor Market
While diversity of thought and expertise can lead to greater innovation, employing people with different backgrounds and interests often leads to stressful and unproductive conflict. Business leaders who effectively manage conflict build more productive teams of engaged employees. In this session, participants will learn methods for managing and resolving conflict, leading to greater collaboration in the workplace.

Month 6: Understanding the Drivers of Employee Engagement in Hybrid Work Environments
Developing a highly engaged workforce is more challenging than ever, given the increasing prevalence of hybrid work environments. The importance of having high employee engagement, where workers deliver discretionary effort above and beyond what is expected, is now more critical than ever. In this session, business leaders will learn the primary drivers of employee engagement and the methods for motivating exceptional performance in a hybrid work environment.

Sessions will not be recorded, as this negatively impacts the experience and participation of those attending.
