WIA Discussion Topic: Resilience

Resilience is the ability to adapt and bounce back from the moments when life's tragedies, traumas, threats, and significant sources of stress encroach on our day to day.  Impacting our lives at home AND at work, developing resilience within our teams can empower individuals to navigate challenges, bounce back after setbacks, and maintain high performance, enhancing our ability to adapt to change and promoting well-being and a positive work environment.

All the research points us in the direction that resilience is not an elusive, fixed trait that one has or hasn't got, but is instead a muscle that can be honed and strengthened through ordinary processes and a willingness to, well, give it a go!  So join your WIA and let's work to build resilience together!

Participating in our discussion is as easy as 1, 2, 3!

We are going to spend some time learning about resilience from each other and from others who have gone before. And we can learn a lot!  As Maya Angelou said, "You may not control all of the events that happen to you but you can decide not to be reduced by them." So let's prepare to do just that!

  1. Check out this powerful video in which Lucy Hone discusses her insights as a psychologist and survivor in the 3 secrets of resilient people.
  2. We have also found this quick article giving some perspective on why our children are increasingly less able to handle the routine hardships of life: https://www.psychologytoday.com/ca/blog/inviting-monkey-tea/202209/whats-happened-emotional-resilience
  3. And here is one other article that talks about how resiliency skills affect our office dynamics: https://www.shrm.org/topics-tools/news/inclusion-diversity/the-least-resilient-demographic-alive

In life, tough times are inevitable: whether heartbreak, disaster, life challenges, or loss, adversity doesn't discriminate, and we can all use the skills to tackle any challenge head-on and produce life-altering results for our lives at home and at work.

Register to join us for this discussion where we will work together to develop a resilient mindset to help us all through the anguish, the pain, and the longing, and help us to be more resilient in our everyday lives!

Participation is free. Registration is required to receive the link to these AHTD-WIA Meet-Up experiences.
